Charlie Daniels 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam 11-30-2016 - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Wow! “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” is 40 years old!

It’s hard to believe but The Charlie Daniels Band’s song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” is 40 years old this month!

I bought the album(yes…it was on vinyl!) back in the late 70’s just for that song but really enjoyed the rest of the songs on the album as well.  After doing a little research today I found out The Devil Went Down to Georgia has been covered by Jerry Reed…Lynn Anderson…Blues Traveler…The Chipmunks and The Muppets(Ha!) …Keith Urban…The Zac Brown Band…Colt Ford…Primus…A rap version by K.M.C. Kru and even a parody by Cletus T. Judd!  Keith Urban and the Zac Brown Band still frequently perform the song live in concert.
“People ask me if I imagined ‘The Devil Went Down To Georgia’ would be the success it has been,” says Daniels. “My answer is I had no idea that forty years after the fact we would still be talking about it almost as if it was a new release.”
The song won CMA…ACM and Grammy Awards.   Happy 40th to the Devil Went Down to Georgia!  Enjoy!
