On Sunday, October 15th, 2023, a man from Grant County is in custody following a violent incident resulting in a SWAT team deployment on .  According to the Grant County Sheriff report, the domestic violence call was made after a caller said their father  Joshua Clifford Stevens, 46, of Wendell, had threatened another family member with a knife and pointed a gun at their chest. Stevens was taken into custody and charged with two felony counts of second degree assault and misdemeanor domestic assault. He is being held at the Douglas County Jail and held with a $10,000 bail.

According to Grant County District Court records, at approximately 12:23 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic situation with a gun on County Road 11 near Wendell. The said their father, Joshua Clifford Stevens, 46, of Wendell had pointed a gun at another family member.

At approximately 12:44 p.m., a deputy met with the family member who was very emotional and stated that they had gotten into an argument with Stevens and that he got really mad and held them down on the bed while yelling at them.

The family member then reported that Stevens had a knife and held it to their throat and also made a stabbing motion to their chest with the knife. The family member then said Stevens went to a dresser drawer and pulled out a 9MM handgun, cocked the gun and pointed it at their chest.

Stevens was taken into custody and charged with two felony counts of second degree assault and misdemeanor domestic assault. Stevens is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail and made his first court appearance on Oct. 17, with a Rule 8 hearing scheduled for Oct. 30. He is being held on $10,000 bail or bond with no conditions, or $5,000 with conditions.

In addition to Grant County law enforcement, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
