Spring just isn’t spring without a minty, creamy McDONALD’S SHAMROCK SHAKE!! The 2019 Shamrock Shake Fundraiser is a way to enjoy the spring’s best treat AND help children and families in need. There’s nothing better! That means it’s a great time to get your shake on!!!
What is the fundaraiser?
More than 230 McDonald’s Minnesota Co-Op restaurants (Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and Ironwood, Michigan) will donate 40 cents from each Shamrock Shake purchased from March 5-17 to Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest (RMHC-UM) and the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester.
RMHC-UM runs the Ronald McDonald Houses and its associated programs in the Twin Cities. The Ronald McDonald House of Rochester runs the House in Rochester and its associated programs. Both serve families from all across the state. Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a warm, welcoming home-away-from-home and services that keep families together in a loving, sympathetic community when it matters most—offering support to families seeking medical care for their children.
3 Ronald McDonald Houses in Minnesota
Minnesota opened the doors to its first Ronald McDonald House in October 1979, just off the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus on Oak Street in Minneapolis. There are now two Ronald McDonald Houses in the Twin Cities; the other is inside Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, the first House inside a hospital. The House on Oak St. has 48 private rooms; the one inside Children’s has 15. Oak St. also has one of Minnesota’s last one-room K-12 schoolhouses! This accredited alternative Minneapolis Public School enables patients and siblings to attend school during extended periods of hospitalization.
The House in Rochester became a licensed Ronald McDonald House in 1990 and has 42 rooms, and will expand to 70 when construction wraps this spring. Exciting elements of the expansion include green space, a gym, parking, and play areas. The Rochester Ronald McDonald House is steps from St. Mary’s Hospital and near the Mayo Clinic.
2 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms
RMHC-UM has two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, both in St. Paul (one at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare and the other at Children’s), which provide relaxing, inviting spaces for families just steps from where their child is being treated. Each has four private
rooms for families to stay in.

In the five previous fundraisers (2014-2018), thanks to the generosity of their customers,
McDonald’s and its owner/operators in Minnesota and western Wisconsin have raised more
than $412,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Minnesota.
McDonald’s entire system – from its owner/operators, suppliers and employees to its customers – has aided RMHC-UM and the Ronald McDonald House, Rochester and its commitment to support families with sick children by providing stability and vital resources.
The goal in leading a sixth straight fundraiser is to further support both Minnesota chapters’ mission of creating and finding programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families during a time of need. Funds raised through all of McDonald’s efforts to support RMHC-Upper Midwest and the Ronald McDonald House, Rochester, will enable both organizations to keep families close to the care their sick children need when they need it most.
National & International
RMHC serves about 7 million children and families around the world each year. There are now more than 360 Ronald McDonald Houses, covering over 60 countries.
