The Minnesota House on Thursday, May 18th, 2023, voted 73-57 to legalize cannabis for recreational use for those 21 and older.

Under the plan, people would be allowed to possess, grow and use cannabis. The state would license marijuana growers and regulate and tax their products. The bill would also expunge the criminal records of those convicted of non-violent marijuana crimes. 

The next step is the Senate vote, then the governor’s signature. Senators are expected to take up the bill for debate Friday.

Possession for adults 21 and older will be lawful starting Aug. 1 with limits. It will no longer be a crime for Minnesotans to have up to two pounds of marijuana at their home and transport two ounces while in public.
