Planned Parenthood Funding Loss Affects Area Clinics

Planned Parenthood says it’s pulling out of the federal family planning program known as Title X rather than abide by a new Trump administration rule prohibiting participants from referring patients for abortions. Planned Parenthood’s acting president and CEO says the organization’s nationwide network of health centers will remain open and strive to make up for the loss of federal money. The move will have a disproportionate impact in Minnesota, where 90% of Title X patients are served by Planned Parenthood; that figure is 40% nationwide. Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota operates 19 clinics, including clinics in Alexandria, St. Cloud and Willmar.
