New York Thieves Steal 6 ATMs in 3 Months Using “Basically Just Brute Force”

Over the past six months, a small crew of New York burglars has stolen at least six ATMs in three different boroughs using “basically just brute force,” a Brooklyn detective tells The New York Times. After watching surveillance video of one of the thefts, one building manager says “two guys with a crowbar” made off with an entire machine. Unfortunately, these cash machines often don’t contain a ton of cash, as the crew has netted a total of $39,000 after six thefts. “It’s a rough way to make a living,” explains the detective. “A few thousand dollars at a clip.”
