New Restaurant in Alexandria Opening: Hunted, Harvested and Grilled Over an Open Fire. Legendary Meals and Cocktails.

New restaurant getting close to opening!! Theyre located in the former Doolittles Woodfire Grill building in Alexandria, Opening April 19, 2021, Longtrees Woodfire Grill will serve up classic midwest cuisine with a modern slant. Featuring familiar comforts like pot roast, meatloaf, and old school cheeseburgers, you’ll also find more curious tastes like fire roasted seasonal game, locally foraged fungi, and craft cocktails to put some hair on your chest. Drawing inspiration from the natural splendor of the North, the menu transitions with the seasons, incorporating locally hunted, harvested and foraged ingredients. Field and forest to table ingredients are the bread and butter of the scratch kitchen. The Grillworks wood fire grill, where steaks and rotisserie chickens roast to perfection over an open flame, is the heart of the restaurant. For the adventurous type, field fresh game such as duck, elk, and venison, as well as foraged morels, lobster mushrooms, and more will rotate through the menu when in season.

A full bar will offer unpretentious craft and classic cocktails, as well as a curated wine list and local tap beers. The namesake of the restaurant is the mythical man Tom Longtree. A St. Paul native from the turn of the twentieth century, fable has it that he left behind his life in the city to pursue a new life living off the land, working with his hands, and reveling in the bounty of the great Minnesota North. His adventures and way of life are the inspiration for a restaurant that highlights the best of the wild’s offerings. Longtrees is the latest venue from Twin Cities chef Mike Rakun, owner of Mill Valley Kitchen, Mill Valley Market, and Benedict’s Wayzata and Rochester.

He’s known for his farm-to-table style, emphasizing natural flavors and mouth-watering, often health-conscious dishes. As he puts it, “I like to find the best possible ingredients direct from their source, alter them as little as possible and let them speak for themselves.” Educated at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, Rakun has worked in kitchens in Chicago, Florida, and throughout the Twin Cities metro, spreading his innovative thinking and creative insights across the country. The restaurant is in the process of assembling its legendary team of food service professionals. All positions, front and back of house, are available. A job fair will be held on site from 10am-6pm, March 17-20, as well as March 24-27.
