FamilyWise Honors Minnesota Families During Child Abuse Prevention Month
By publishing an inaugural Family Wellbeing Index and recognizing statewide Pinwheel for Prevention Award winners
March 31, 2022 (Minneapolis, MN) — April is national Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month. In Minnesota, FamilyWise Services is the lead agency for child abuse prevention and the home of Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota following its 2020 merger with Minnesota Communities Caring for Children (MCCC).
This year, FamilyWise is bringing new attention to the health and needs of Minnesota families through its inaugural Family Wellbeing Index. The report looks at factors that help families thrive, from system-level supports to personal relationships. It is an apt time for this report as families work through the instability and uncertainty associated with the COVID-19 pandemic – from job loss to changes in education delivery to isolation. The report provides a baseline rooted in family potential rather than need and will serve as an invitation to deepen our understanding of family wellbeing with partner agencies, policy makers and the public. The report will be released on Tuesday, April 5 as part of CAP Month virtual event.
The annual Pinwheel for Prevention awards are also an important part of CAP month as they provide an opportunity to recognize statewide partners who are actively working to strengthen families and communities. This year, FamilyWise honors 15 organizations across Minnesota for their contributions. A full list of this year’s winners can be found at FamilyWiseServices.com.
Registration for the CAP Month virtual event, at 10 a.m. CT on Tuesday, April 5, is open to partners, media and the public. In addition to getting a first look at the Minnesota Family Wellbeing Index, attendees will also hear about FamilyWise’s work to share resources with partners, expand access to services, and balance conditions for positive childhood experiences to enrich every community and support parents and caregivers.
