On February 1, 2021 the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a garage fire at Martin Iron Works located at 24093 CR 24 NW. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Ashby Fire Department/Ambulance and Evansville Fire responded to the fire.

Upon arrival, the fire department located fire in the attic area of the garage. Ashby and Evansville Fire Departments were able to extinguish the fire. There was fire, smoke and water damage throughout the garage. It appears the fire was started by a burning barrel located on the north west corner of the garage which started the roof area on fire. The owner stated he had been burning cardboard in the burning barrel. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the MN State Fire Marshall. Responding to the fire was the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Garfield Fire Department and First Responders and North Ambulance.
