Former Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels is under investigation for misuse of city funds. He allegedly charged thousands of dollars of personal expenses on a city-issued credit card, ranging from electronics and gas to a new car battery. Over a two-and-a-half year period, Richard Wyffels supposedly bought at least $13,000 worth of items and services that couldn’t be accounted for including a $4,700 high powered scope for a firearm. When asked by current Police Chief Scott Kent, he had said it was either lost or stolen after he left police headquarters. Wyffels has not been charged. His home was searched April 8th, but only two items were seized, an iHome alarm clock and a calculator. He retired in December 2020.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) was asked to investigate these transactions. The information was then turned over to the BCA for further investigation.
