Cinemark Is Planning to Open Most of Their Movie Theaters by July 17

The country’s third-largest movie chain plans to open most of their locations in the U.S. by July 17, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Some Dallas, Texas locations will open as early as June 19. Theaters are opening up so that tentpole films like Mulan and Tenet can help bring in income. Industry sources expect the top movie chains, including AMC and Regal Cinemas, to follow suit and to open cinemas in New York City and Los Angeles as soon as July 10. Cinemark will implement multiple sanitary precautions. Disinfections will happen in between shows. Reduced showtimes, staggered seating and more air filtration will also happen. Employees will wear face gloves and masks, and customers will be encouraged to wear masks as well. Concession prices will likely be reduced; self-service fountain drinks will not be available. “What we are doing is very substantial and very significant,” Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi said. “Our theaters are always clean. Now they will sparkle.”
