Chipotle Has Nurses on Call to Make Sure Employees Who Call in Sick Aren’t Just Hungover

During a conference on Wednesday, Chipotle CEO Brian Nicoll revealed that the restaurant chain has nurses on call to make sure that employees who call in sick aren’t merely hungover. “We have nurses on call, so that if you say, ‘Hey, I’ve been sick,’ you get the call into the nurse,” he said, according to Business Insider. “The nurse validates that it’s not a hangover—you’re really sick—and then we pay for the day off to get healthy again.” A company spokeswoman later clarified that the nurse consultation was optional, saying, “You don’t have to call a nurse if you’re taking a sick day. All employees who call in sick for any reason receive paid time off.”
