CDC Allowing Some Freedoms Back

The latest updates from the CDC are hopeful!
On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed updated COVID guidelines for people who have been vaccinated. If you have been fully vaccinated, you can have small gatherings with another household, even if they are unvaccinated, without masking or social distancing. The CDC recommends if there’s more than one other household represented, masks and social distancing should still be in place. Also, the gathering should be outside.

“We know that people want to get vaccinated so they can get back to doing the things they enjoy with the people they love,” said CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, MD, MPH. “There are some activities that fully vaccinated people can begin to resume now in their own homes. Everyone – even those who are vaccinated – should continue with all mitigation strategies when in public settings. As the science evolves and more people get vaccinated, we will continue to provide more guidance to help fully vaccinated people safely resume more activities.”

  • Visit with other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks or staying 6 feet apart.
  • Visit with unvaccinated people from one other household indoors without wearing masks or staying 6 feet apart if everyone in the other household is at low risk for severe disease.
  • Refrain from quarantine and testing if they do not have symptoms of COVID-19 after contact with someone who has COVID-19.

In a statement, the CDC pointed out, “For example, fully vaccinated grandparents can visit indoors with their unvaccinated healthy daughter and her healthy children without wearing masks or physical distancing, provided none of the unvaccinated family members are at risk of severe COVID-19. This guidance represents a first step toward returning to everyday activities.”

Vaccinated people also don’t need to quarantine or get tested if they have been knowingly exposed to someone with the virus. However, if they show symptoms, isolation and testing are still important.

In public settings, the vaccinated should still wear masks and practice social distancing. Plus, you are encouraged not to attend medium or large-sized gatherings.

The CDC has not said that it’s a field day for vaccinated individuals to travel. The advisory to avoid travel, vaccinated or not, is still in place
