Amazon to Delay Prime Day Sales Event Over Coronavirus

Amazon is planning to delay its annual summer shopping event Prime Day until at least August, according to internal meeting notes seen by Reuters. Prime Day, which started in 2015, usually takes place in July, but the company usually announces the date close to it. The document also said the online giant expects to experience a $100 million hit from excess devices that it usually moves on Prime Day, and might now have to sell them at a discount. The documents also revealed an unexpected surge in the company’s video-on-demand services, posting $100 million more revenue than expected in the first quarter of 2020.
