Alexandria YMCA Childcare To Remain Open, Activities & Membership Postponed

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Alexandria YMCA has come up with a plan. In an email sent to members, a representative says, “These are unprecedented times. COVID-19 (coronavirus) is a global pandemic and a national emergency, and nobody is certain what the next days, weeks or months hold.”

They go on to say:

“IMMEDIATE FACILITY & PROGRAM CHANGES TAKING PLACE

Based on what we have learned from health and government officials, and YMCA’s around the country, we are making changes to prevent the spread of illness.

Beginning Monday, March 16, we will begin pivoting our resources from membership and health and wellness, to child care and community support efforts. At this time, all classes and membership programming will be postponed, including but not limited to:

  • Wellness center access
  • Youth sports
  • Swim lessons
  • Child watch
  • Personal training
  • Water fitness
  • Group fitness classes

At this time, YMCA child care and YMCA child care at Knute Nelson will remain open. Per the Governor’s order, families with young children depend on child care providers. Child care providers deliver an essential service to our state to ensure that our economy and workforce can thrive.

Watch for more communication pertaining to K-6 school’s out day camp programming.”
