Airplane Crash Kills 3 After Leaving Alexandria

Three people were killed in an airplane crash that left Alexandria on Saturday, August 7th around 5:45pm. The small plane crashed into a house near the twin cities and caught fire, a neighbor’s doorbell camera caught the devastating incident. The house was occupied by a family, but there were no injuries. The crash is still under investigation. Dr. Jim Edney of Ohmaha, Nebraska, was flying the plane with his stepson Jacob Mertes and his stepson’s wife Sara Mertes. They had just attended a large family gathering hosted by his brother at Lake Miltona. He was an experienced pilot, having flown for nearly 20 years. The plane left the Alexandria airport heading to Eden Prairie’s airport when it crashed on Rose Street in the city of Victoria.
